Flooding in Sabah’s Sipitang, Sook and Beaufort districts has forced evacuations, with relief centres activated as the situation in Pitas remains stable.
KOTA KINABALU: Flooding has affected three districts in Sabah this morning, prompting the activation of evacuation centres.
The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat confirmed that Sipitang, Sook and Beaufort were impacted.
Three temporary relief centres and one permanent evacuation centre have been opened to accommodate displaced residents.
“Evacuation of affected residents to the relief centres is ongoing this morning,” the secretariat said in a statement.
In Sipitang, shelters are operating at the Mesapol mini hall and Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Berampah.
The SLDB Dalit Gana hall is serving as a relief centre in Sook.
In Beaufort, the Selagon permanent evacuation centre has also been activated.
Sipitang and Beaufort are located on Sabah’s west coast, south-west of Kota Kinabalu.
Sook is situated in the state’s interior.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Pitas district remains unchanged.
As of this morning, 1,695 people from 861 families are still sheltering at five temporary relief centres.
This figure is the same as the number recorded last night.
