PM Anwar approves RM300,000 for a new pedestrian bridge in Pulau Gaya after a collapse injured residents during Aidilfitri
PUTRAJAYA: The government has approved a special allocation of RM300,000 to rebuild a pedestrian bridge at Kampung Selamat Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, Sabah, which collapsed on March 22, according to the Implementation Coordination Unit, Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM).
It said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim approved the allocation following the incident, which saw several residents fall into the sea while visiting relatives during Aidilfitri.
“This swift decision reflects the government’s concern for the difficulties faced by residents, as well as the priority given to public safety,” it said in a statement today.
ICU JPM said the allocation will be fully utilised to rebuild a stronger and safer pedestrian bridge, replacing the old and dilapidated structure, which posed safety risks.
“The project will be monitored by ICU JPM Sabah to ensure its prompt completion for the convenience of residents,” it said, adding that the initiative is in line with the Malaysia MADANI aspiration, which emphasises compassion and well-being, as well as inclusive infrastructure development.
