Chief Secretary warns firm action will be taken against civil servants involved in misconduct, abuse of power and corruption to prevent recurrence.
IPOH: The government consistently takes firm action against civil servants involved in misconduct, particularly abuse of power and corruption.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said such misconduct carries significant implications for the country’s image.
“Firmness in taking action is essential to ensure that similar incidents do not recur,” he said at the Perak-level Taat Setia MADANI Roadshow.
He urged civil servants to consistently uphold principles of accountability, professionalism and responsibility in their duties.
Every civil servant plays an important role in shaping public perception of the government and civil service.
He stressed that integrity, transparency and effectiveness are pillars of a civil service trusted by the people.
Several approaches and guidelines have been introduced to ensure these values are upheld.
Directives clearly state that no civil servant may make social media statements that could harm the government’s image without official authorisation.
“This is not to restrict freedom of expression, but to ensure information shared is accurate, responsible and not misleading,” he said.
Civil servants must serve with sincerity, not seeking recognition but fulfilling the trust placed in them.
They should also be open-minded and willing to accept feedback to improve weaknesses.
“The attitude of shirking duties and questioning responsibilities only creates distance between the people and administration,” he added.
Civil servants must truly understand the hardships faced by all Malaysians, whether farmers or urban residents. – Bernama
