Hajiji sworn in for second term as Sabah chief minister

GRS chairman Hajiji Noor sworn in as Sabah chief minister for second term after coalition wins 29 seats in state election

KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was sworn in early today as Sabah chief minister for a second term.

Hajiji, who retained the Sulaman seat in the 17th Sabah State Election, took his oath of office before Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu.

Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi witnessed the signing of the documents.

The ceremony was attended by GRS secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

Also present were Sabah state assembly speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya and Sabah Attorney-General Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh.

According to official results, GRS led the contest with 29 seats followed by Parti Warisan with 25 seats.

Barisan Nasional secured six seats while UPKO won three and STAR obtained two.

A total of 73 state seats were contested in this election.

Earlier negotiations to form the new state government involved UPKO leaders Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau and Datuk Ewon Benedick.

Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and party members gathered at a hotel during the negotiations.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said his party was prepared to work with compatible parties for Sabah’s political stability. – Bernama
