Malaysians affected by recent floods can obtain a free replacement for their lost or damaged passports
PETALING JAYA: Malaysians affected by recent floods can obtain a free replacement for their lost or damaged passports, the Immigration Department announced today.
The initiative aims to ease the burden on victims and ensure that essential travel or official matters can proceed without disruption, said Immigration Department Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban.
He said that the agency recognises the difficulties faced by flood victims nationwide and is committed to supporting them during this challenging period.
“The Immigration Department expresses our concern for those affected by the floods. In response, we are offering free replacement of the Malaysian International Passport for victims who lost or had their passports damaged due to the disaster,” Zakaria said in a statement issued today.
Victims whose passports were lost or damaged due to the flooding may submit an application for a free passport replacement at any nearby Immigration Department office.
The conditions for this free replacement are as follows:
- The passport must still be valid with no less than six months remaining.
- Applicants must bring their identification card (MyKad).
- Applicants must bring the original passport, if it is still available.
- A copy of the police report must be submitted (for lost passports).
- A flood disaster verification report from the Fire and Rescue Department or the Local Authority must be provided.
“It is hoped that this initiative will help ease the burden faced by flood victims and assist them in resuming their daily lives more easily and in an orderly manner,” he added.
