Malaysia to table four institutional reform bills covering Ombudsman, FOI, political funding, and AG-PP separation of powers in 2025.
KUALA LUMPUR: Four institutional reform bills are undergoing consultation and expected to be tabled in Parliament next year.
The bills cover the Ombudsman, freedom of information, political funding, and separation of powers between the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed the bills are currently in an engagement process with various stakeholders.
“All four are currently under an engagement process, including with Parliament, the Bar Council, and other parties, before being finalised,” he said during Dewan Rakyat Question Time.
Anwar said some bills will be tabled early next year while others are expected mid-year.
He added that amendments to the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 will also be tabled.
These amendments will provide both protection and incentives for whistleblowers.
The Prime Minister was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodi (GPS-Sri Aman).
She had inquired about legal institutional reform developments aimed at improving Malaysia’s Corruption Perceptions Index.
Relevant ministers have submitted policy decisions for Cabinet approval regarding all four bills. – Bernama
