Over 800 Johor firefighters are on standby for CNY and Raya, conducting safety inspections at 200 high-traffic premises to prevent emergencies.
KLUANG: More than 800 Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel are on standby across Johor for the Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive periods.
State JBPM director Siti Rohani Nadir said the personnel are deployed across 34 fire stations in four zones to ensure a swift response to any emergencies.
Their focus will be on incidents at residential areas and high-traffic premises throughout the festive season.
The department is also conducting Fire Safety Inspections at crowded locations like shopping malls, supermarkets, and hotels.
Inspections began on Feb 19 and will continue until April 6, with a target of 200 high-traffic premises.
To date, 31 high-risk premises have been inspected, resulting in four Fire Hazard Elimination notices being issued for violations.
Violations included storing combustible items, blocked emergency exits, and poorly maintained fire safety equipment.
Siti Rohani said inspections will also extend to guesthouses, resorts, and popular holiday destinations.
She urged individuals and business operators to check their own premises due to increased festive activities.
“We urge individuals and business operators to check their own premises, as festive seasons typically see increased cooking and heavier use of electricity and gas, which elevate the risk of fire,” she said.
The advisory was given during the launch of the state-level Public Awareness and Safety Campaign.
The campaign featured safety briefings, fire-extinguisher demonstrations, and practical fire safety tips for the public.
