Kuala Lumpur’s road transport department impounds dozens of motorcycles and inspects thousands of vehicles in a major pre-festive safety operation.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department inspected 9,542 vehicles and seized 66 motorcycles during four special operations ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
The ‘Ops Khas Motosikal’ drive focused on road safety and smooth traffic flow under the slogan ‘Pandu Cermat, Sampai Selamat’.
The main offences detected included driving without a valid licence, expired road tax, lack of insurance, and failure to use designated motorcycle lanes.
Other common violations involved improper registration numbers and illegal vehicle modifications.
“The operation aims to improve compliance with traffic regulations and reduce accident risks, particularly among motorcyclists, who are a high-risk group,” JPJ KL said in a statement.
During one operation at the Sentul Pasar Toll Plaza, authorities inspected 3,120 vehicles.
Offences related to driving licences, road tax and insurance were recorded at that location.
The enforcement blitz involved collaboration with the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department and the National Anti-Drug Agency.
JPJ KL reminded owners of seized motorcycles to claim their vehicles within the stipulated period.
Failure to do so may result in forfeiture after three months, in accordance with the law.
Enforcement will continue to be intensified, especially against motorcyclists who violate regulations or carry out dangerous modifications.
Road users are urged to ensure they have valid driving licences, road tax and insurance.
Compliance with traffic regulations is essential for the safety of all, the department added.
