JTKSM opens 490 investigation papers and issues RM2.87 million in compounds

The Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia has opened 490 investigation papers and issued RM2.87 million in compounds for various offences.

KLANG: The Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia has issued 501 compound fines totalling RM2.87 million involving 490 investigation papers opened for various offences since January.

Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad said that of the total, 353 cases have received approval to prosecute, involving a total fine of RM138,000 for offences under the Employment Act 1955, the Minimum Wage Order 2024 and the Employees’ Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodations and Amenities Act 1990.

This action was taken through 488 enforcement operations conducted by JTKSM nationwide up to Nov 1 involving inspections of various employment sectors including logistics, manufacturing and services.

Among the many offences committed are failure to contribute to the Employees Provident Fund and Social Security Organisation as well as violation of the minimum wage order.

He explained that Ops Kurier is focused on the delivery and logistics sector which has been identified as high risk for non-compliance with employment laws, particularly involving vendors and subcontractors.

Abdul Rahman said inspections found that some employers still failed to pay wages to employees working half-day shifts, as well as cases of workers who worked four hours but received no pay.

He said employers have been given one to two weeks to submit proof of compliance, including salary statements and contributions or face legal action.

The ministry will not compromise with any employer who violates the law, including taking firm action such as prosecution in court if they fail to submit the required evidence. – Bernama
