Over 200 schools in Kota Setar and Pendang will move to home-based learning for three days due to a Level 2 heatwave alert
ALOR SETAR: A total of 206 schools in the Kota Setar and Pendang districts will implement Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) from tomorrow until Tuesday.
The Kedah State Education Department (JPN) made the decision following a Level 2 heatwave alert issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
Temperatures in both districts have met the Level 2 threshold from March 26 to 28. The move aligns with Ministry of Education (MOE) guidelines for operating educational institutions during extreme heat.
“The implementation of PdPR is to ensure the safety, health and welfare of students, teachers, and school staff are safeguarded,” the department said in a statement.
All affected schools are under the supervision of the Kota Setar and Pendang District Education Offices. The department stated that face-to-face lessons would resume the day after weather conditions return to normal.
The Kedah JPN will continue monitoring the situation and provide further updates as necessary. It also called for full cooperation from all parties to ensure a smooth PdPR process.
“All parties, including school administrators, teachers, parents and guardians, are requested to give their full cooperation for the well-being of the students,” the statement read.
