Sultan Ibrahim observes defence technology advancements at SAMI, reinforcing Malaysia-Saudi bilateral ties across trade and military cooperation.
RIYADH: Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, visited Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) today to observe the latest advancements in military manufacturing technologies.
His Majesty was received at SAMI Alsalam Aerospace Industries by CEO Thamer Al-Muhid, who briefed the King on the company’s ongoing defence and security system projects.
The Malaysian delegation included Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj, Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Also present were Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zain and Malaysian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Datuk Syed Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman.
SAMI was established in 2017 to localise military manufacturing and develop cutting-edge defence systems under Saudi Vision 2030.
The company operates through five main sector units: aviation and space, defence systems, advanced electronics, land systems and marine systems.
SAMI has achieved several major milestones aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia’s self-sufficiency in military industries through advanced technologies.
Istana Negara said the state visit reflects continued commitment to strengthen Malaysia-Saudi bilateral relations across economy, geopolitics, defence and Islamic affairs.
During the first 10 months of this year, there were 12 high-profile visits between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is Malaysia’s 14th largest trading partner with total trade amounting to RM44.74 billion.
This marks Sultan Ibrahim’s fifth state visit after Singapore, China, Brunei and Russia. – Bernama
