KL road closures for Thaipusam chariot procession from Tuesday

12 key intersections in Kuala Lumpur will be closed and diverted from Tuesday night for the Thaipusam chariot procession to Batu Caves.

KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve road intersections in the capital will be closed and diverted in stages from Tuesday night to facilitate the Thaipusam chariot procession.

The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) said the closures will begin at 9 pm from the Sri Maha Mariamman Dhevasthanam Temple on Jalan Tun H.S. Lee.

The procession will head towards the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves, Selangor.

The affected intersections include Jalan Leboh Ampang/Jalan Perak and Jalan Tun Perak/Jalan Pudu.

Also closed are Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock/Jalan Sultan, Jalan Sultan/Jalan Hang Jebat, Jalan Sultan/Jalan Petaling and Jalan Sultan/Jalan Panggung.

Other impacted junctions are Jalan Sultan/Jalan Tun H.S. Lee and Jalan Hang Kasturi/Jalan Sultan Mohamed.

The list includes Jalan Munshi Abdullah/Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Dang Wangi/Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Laut/Jalan Dang Wangi and Jalan Raja Laut/Jalan Sultan Ismail.

JSPT chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the return journey will start at 3 pm on February 2.

The procession is expected to arrive back in the city around 4 am on February 3.

He advised the public to plan their journeys in advance and use suitable alternative routes.

“Compliance with instructions is crucial to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of all parties,” Mohd Zamzuri said.

He urged full cooperation with traffic police personnel on duty. – Bernama
