The Ministry of Higher Education is overseeing a RM39 million dormitory project at Sandakan Polytechnic, aiming to add 700 beds by September 2027 despite minor delays.
SANDAKAN: The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) is closely monitoring the construction of two new dormitory blocks at Sandakan Polytechnic.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the RM39 million project will increase on-campus accommodation capacity by 700 students.
He said the project is currently 12% complete, with a minor 20-day delay attributed to adverse weather.
“Overall, we find that the progress of the project is at a satisfactory level, despite the minor delay caused by rainfall,” Zambry told reporters after a site inspection.
He stressed the need to ensure the project is not affected by any other technical issues.
The separate blocks for male and female students are scheduled for completion in September 2027.
Zambry added that the ministry is also addressing ageing infrastructure at the 17-year-old institution.
This includes upgrading plumbing and water pressure systems to ensure optimal facility function.
Project progress will be monitored by both the polytechnic’s unit and the ministry to keep it on schedule.
