The RM20.3 million upgrade of Labuan’s main ferry terminal jetty is scheduled for completion in April 2028, enhancing safety and efficiency for the vital Sabah-Brunei link.
LABUAN: The upgrading project for the Labuan Vehicle and Passenger Ferry Terminal Jetty is scheduled for full completion on April 6, 2028.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project is a key government initiative to strengthen maritime transport infrastructure.
He stated it will enhance jetty operational efficiency, safety and user comfort while supporting Labuan’s role as a competitive maritime and logistics hub.
“The efficiency and reliability of jetty infrastructure are critical to ensuring the smooth movement of people, goods and services,” he said in a speech text read by Works Department director-general Datuk Seri Roslan Ismail.
The project, with a contract value of RM20.3 million, was awarded to CitaGlobal Land Sdn Bhd.
It is implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan and falls under the purview of the Ministry of Transport.
The scope of work includes widening the vehicle waiting area and constructing new ticket counters.
It also involves repairs to the main ramp structure, upgrading of the second ramp and reclamation works.
Construction of new passenger waiting areas and agency inspection facilities is also part of the project.
Roslan assured that infrastructure upgrading projects nationwide will be closely monitored for timely completion.
He said contractors are responsible for finishing projects within the specified period.
Any delays will only be considered for an extension of time if eligibility requirements are met.
Failure without justification may result in penalties or liquidated and ascertained damages.
“We have clear monitoring processes and procedures including mechanisms to assist contractors should issues arise,” Roslan said at a press conference.
He added that only contractors with proven financial and technical capability are selected.
Nanta also highlighted that the Transport Infrastructure Engineering Branch successfully issued 16 letters of acceptance this year.
These contracts have a total value of RM195.8 million involving several ministries and state governments.
