Leaders call for unity and inclusive progress on Federal Territory Day

Malaysian leaders urge strengthened togetherness and inclusive development to ensure federal territories remain safe, progressive and prosperous for all.

KUALA LUMPUR: National leaders have emphasised the spirit of togetherness and inclusive development to mark Federal Territory Day.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan reflect the maturity of territories developed through collective effort.

“This year, the theme ‘Wilayah Persekutuan Kita’ is once again highlighted as a reminder that these territories belong to all of us,” he said in a Facebook post.

He called for the spirit of togetherness and shared responsibility to be reinforced.

Ahmad Zahid said the development achievements are the result of sustained commitment from civil servants, communities, the private sector and residents.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the celebration highlights values of unity, harmony and close cooperation.

He said the territories are symbols of Malaysia’s success, enriched by cultural diversity and serving as tourist attractions.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the day represents a commitment that cities must serve the people.

“Public spaces must be open, easily accessible and actively used by families, youth, the working population, senior citizens and persons with disabilities,” she said.

She stressed the need for responsive urban governance that corrects mistakes.

“We are building not just the physical city, but the living experience — one that is fair, open and comfortable for all,” Hannah added.
