Arteta hails Arsenal’s statement win over Leeds

Arsenal’s 4-0 rout of Leeds ends a three-game winless run, with Arteta praising his team’s response to pressure and their squad depth.

MIKEL Arteta declared Arsenal’s emphatic 4-0 victory at Leeds United a powerful statement of their title credentials.

The win at Elland Road ended a three-game winless run in the Premier League that had seen their lead at the top dwindle.

Martin Zubimendi’s header and a Karl Darlow own goal gave the Gunners a commanding half-time lead.

Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus added second-half strikes to complete a ruthless performance.

Arteta said his team were determined to respond after recent criticism. “We really wanted to show how much we wanted it,” the Arsenal manager said.

He hailed the impact of Noni Madueke, who replaced the injured Bukayo Saka in the warm-up and assisted the first two goals.

Arteta felt this demonstrated the squad’s valuable strength in depth. “He was ready, because you cannot do that in two minutes,” Arteta said of Madueke’s preparation.

The manager praised his players for executing their roles perfectly in a difficult environment.
