A lorry rear-ended an express bus on the North-South Expressway, injuring both drivers while 10 passengers escaped unharmed.
JASIN: A lorry driver and an express bus driver were injured in a collision on the North-South Expressway near here on Monday.
Jasin district police chief Supt Lee Robert said the accident occurred at KM183.2 northbound at about 1.45 pm.
The lorry, carrying a load of bran, was travelling from Bukit Gambir, Johor, towards Alor Gajah, Melaka.
The express bus, with 10 passengers on board, was heading from Larkin, Johor, towards Seremban.
“Initial investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 69-year-old man, was travelling straight in the left lane,” said Lee in a statement.
He said the lorry driver did not notice the bus, driven by a 44-year-old man, moving slowly in the same lane and rammed into its rear.
The lorry driver sustained head and hand injuries, while the bus driver suffered leg pain.
Both drivers were taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment.
All 10 passengers on the express bus were unharmed and continued their journey on another bus.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact investigating officer Insp Marwan Shafiq Mohd Latfi at 011-11127533.
