Malaysia will roll out a Year 4 learning assessment this year, covering four core subjects, as part of a revived matrix system, Anwar says.
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia will introduce a major Year 4 assessment this year as part of a reintroduced matrix system in primary schools.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the move aims to focus on holistic learning rather than only Year 6 assessments.
“Through 2026, we will bring back the matrix system for Year 4 in primary schools — there will be a Year 4 examination. So why focus only on Year 6?” he said at the launch of the National Education Plan 2026–2035 at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here today.
The government will implement the Year 4 Learning Assessment this year for four core subjects: Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, and Science.
The Form 3 Learning Assessment, covering five core subjects — Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, Science, and History — will begin in 2027, the Prime Minister added.
— More to come
