Malaysia and Singapore leaders pledge close cooperation for shared prosperity

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlights the vital, family-like ties with Singapore, as bilateral trade hits RM339.39 billion in 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Close cooperation and trust between the leaders of Malaysia and Singapore are vital for the shared prosperity of both nations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the two countries are not just friendly neighbours but are like an interdependent family.

He made the remarks following his one-day working visit to Singapore for the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat.

Anwar said he and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong are proud of their joint achievements.

“Hopefully, this momentum continues to strengthen Malaysia-Singapore relations,” he posted on Facebook.

The annual retreat is the highest-level mechanism for reviewing bilateral cooperation and discussing issues of mutual concern.

It is hosted alternately by Malaysia and Singapore.

Singapore remains Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner.

Bilateral trade reached US$78.70 billion (RM339.39 billion) from January to October 2025.

This figure represents 13.5% of Malaysia’s total trade for that period.

The year 2025 also marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. – Bernama
