Malaysia and Thailand target $30 billion bilateral trade by 2027, focusing on cross-border trade, halal industry, and infrastructure projects to boost economic ties
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan held a bilateral meeting with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Dr Ekniti Nitithanprapas.
The meeting took place at the Thai Ministry of Finance in Bangkok.
Amir Hamzah said the session provided a platform for both nations to exchange views on current economic developments.
He added that the meeting further strengthened the relationship and cooperation between Malaysia and Thailand.
Also present at the meeting was Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour.
Both countries have set a bilateral trade target of USD 30 billion by 2027.
Key focus areas include cross-border trade, the halal industry, and the rubber sector.
Infrastructure projects are expected to further boost trade, investment, and tourism.
These include the Second Rantau Panjang-Sungai Golok Bridge and the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS-Sadao CIQ road alignment.
Amir Hamzah and Abdul Rasheed were in Bangkok to attend the “Asia at 2050” conference.
The conference was organised by the Bank of Thailand in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
It gathered experts, policymakers, and industry leaders from across the region to foster information exchange and innovative thinking on future challenges and opportunities.
