The Digital Ministry is building a centralised MyIKD index to measure digital inclusion gaps, targeting more effective interventions for all communities
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Digital is developing the Malaysia Digital Inclusion Index (MyIKD) to strengthen comprehensive planning and monitoring of digital inclusion.
Minister Gobind Singh Deo said MyIKD is a centralised database aimed at measuring the digital divide within Malaysian society.
“Through MyIKD, aspects of affordability within the community will be specifically measured,” he said in Parliament.
He added that the findings will be used to help the government design more targeted interventions and continuously monitor the digital gap.
Gobind was responding to a question from Datuk Wira Dr Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail (PN-Kubang Pasu) regarding metrics used to measure the progress of the Malaysia Digital Economy for 2025-2030.
Ku Abdul Rahman also asked about steps to ensure digitalisation efforts do not widen social inequalities, particularly regarding access and affordability.
Gobind stated the ministry is committed to ensuring digitalisation does not exacerbate such social inequalities.
This commitment is translated through various inclusive initiatives and programmes involving all community groups.
Answering a supplementary question from Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH-Bukit Bendera) on MyIKD’s benefits for national socioeconomic development, Gobind said it also serves as a crucial mechanism to measure the effectiveness of digital technology implementation.
MyIKD assesses several key aspects including accessibility to technology, affordability, and the level of community readiness and acceptance of new technology.
