Malaysia to showcase cultural diversity and unity in VMY2026 tourism push

MOTAC will highlight Malaysia’s racial harmony and cultural diversity as central themes for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, targeting 40 million tourist arrivals.

SIBU: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will highlight Malaysia’s rich racial and cultural diversity in its Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign.

Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the spirit of national unity and harmony must be demonstrated to assure foreign visitors that Malaysia is a premier and safe destination.

He stated that the nation’s cultural diversity and multi-ethnic harmony are core strengths forming the central theme of the international promotion.

“We have a great opportunity to attract tourists from across the world, including other Asian nations,” Tiong told media at the Sibujaya Countdown 2026 programme.

He added that Malaysia must showcase the culture of all its peoples, with every citizen ready to welcome a large influx of international visitors.

The celebrations, themed “Towards 2026, Explore Sibu, Experience Malaysia”, are scheduled at the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre in Sibujaya.

Tiong said Malaysians have long lived in an environment of unity, harmony and mutual respect despite racial and cultural differences.

“We must not allow cultural differences to be politicised into issues that spark racial or religious sentiment,” he emphasised.

He stressed the need to prove to the world that the country consistently prioritises and upholds unity and harmony.

Tiong also noted that tourist arrivals reached a record 38 million last year.

As of November this year, the figure has already approached the 40 million target set for VMY2026. – Bernama
