GYEONGJU: Malaysia will continue strengthening its strategic ties with the United States based on principles of openness, equitability and mutual respect.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised this commitment would help ensure regional and global stability, prosperity and peace.
He made this statement after his bilateral meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent here.
Anwar noted that Bessent expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s warm hospitality during President Donald Trump’s recent Kuala Lumpur visit.
Their meeting continued the positive momentum from close ties forged during the 47th ASEAN Summit.
The discussion provided opportunity to examine various aspects of Malaysia-US trade and financial relations.
Focus was given to strengthening bilateral economic linkages between both nations.
Both sides shared commitment between US Treasury and Bank Negara Malaysia for a resilient foreign exchange policy framework.
They also emphasised financial market stability alongside transparent and accountable governance.
The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting today.
Anwar reiterated his appreciation to Trump for the visit reflecting US administration’s strong bilateral commitment.
He acknowledged Trump’s role in strengthening global economic cooperation through various efforts.
The Prime Minister appreciated efforts to expand inclusive investment, trade and peace networks.
