Malaysia’s JTF repatriates 21 e-waste containers from Port Klang under Ops Green Shield, with 615 more containers under investigation

SHAH ALAM: The Port Klang E-Waste Joint Task Force (JTF) has repatriated 21 containers of electronic waste to their country of origin through Ops Green Shield implemented since Feb 27.

Port Klang Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the team’s enforcement in phases yielded the detection of 763 containers of e-waste.

“For phase one, 148 containers were inspected, of which 21 containers were successfully re-exported to their country of origin, in accordance with the regulations and laws in force.

“For phase two, 615 containers are currently undergoing follow-up action, which includes 131 containers under the Anti-Money Laundering Act; Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities (AMLA); 112 containers by AKPS and 372 containers by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) which were inspected in 2025,” he said in a statement.

According to Nik Ezanee, the team also identified four shipping liners involving 15 containers that have yet to provide feedback and a reminder letter will be issued if no feedback is received by May 2.

He said further action would be taken including temporarily freezing the license until the containers were fully removed.

He said AKPS would continue to inspect trade containers suspected of carrying prohibited electronic waste in line with the implementation of the total ban on the import of e-waste which came into effect on April 1 through the gazettement of the Customs (Amendment) Order (No. 3) 2026 [P.U.(A) 151/2026] which is placed under the First Schedule of the order.

“AKPS will continue to strengthen control and enforcement at the country’s entry points to ensure that border sovereignty and national interests are always preserved,” he said.
