KPWKM reviewing Social Work Profession Bill to determine if policy amendments needed to include public sector practitioners.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will review the proposed Social Work Profession Bill to determine if policy amendments are needed.

Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the review follows extensive feedback from stakeholder engagement sessions.

She noted that input raised issues including the definition of social work and whether the law should apply to both public and private sector practitioners.

“If the government intends to amend any policy elements in the Bill, further engagement sessions must be held with all relevant stakeholders, including federal and state agencies that employ social workers,” she told the Dewan Rakyat.

Nancy was responding to Rodziah Ismail who asked about mechanisms to ensure the Bill regulates and recognises public sector social workers.

She added that the ministry had previously completed a draft Bill aiming to establish a clear institutional framework for social workers in Malaysia. – Bernama
