The Health Ministry aims for RM3 billion from 2.5 million health tourists this year, building momentum ahead of the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health is targeting RM3 billion in revenue from the medical tourism sector for 2025.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the target anticipates the arrival of 2.5 million health tourists this year.
This projection builds on the momentum from 2024, where 1.6 million health tourists generated RM2.72 billion in revenue.
“This is our projection. We believe we can even outperform this revenue target,” he said at the Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital 2025 awards ceremony.
He added that the ministry is preparing to enhance service capacity and quality to attract more international patients.
This effort is part of a broader strategy to establish Malaysia as the region’s preferred destination for high-value medical treatment.
Dzulkefly noted the FMTH Awards have strengthened Malaysia’s position as a leading global medical tourism destination.
He emphasised the sector is a vital pillar of long-term economic resilience and enhances the country’s international reputation for quality healthcare.
This strategic initiative is led by MOH and the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council.
Ahead of the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026, Dzulkefly said Malaysia is well-positioned to accelerate growth in the healthcare travel ecosystem.
Growth will be driven through innovation, talent development, and a culture of excellence.
“This industry is poised to not only boost economic growth but also advance our collective vision for a healthcare system that is inclusive, compassionate, and globally respected,” he said.
The government’s commitment demonstrates a determination to build a competitive, sustainable, and inclusive economy.
