Finance Ministry to lead multi-agency task force tackling foreigners misusing social passes for work, following PM’s call for strict enforcement.
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Finance will establish a task force to comprehensively address the misuse of social visit passes by foreigners.
Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the team will coordinate a prompt response, including scrutinising enforcement and legal improvements.
“The MOF will coordinate this for a prompt and comprehensive response,” Fahmi told a post-Cabinet media conference.
He stated the task force will include members from the ministries of Investment, Trade and Industry; Home Affairs; Domestic Trade and Cost of Living; Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development; and Housing and Local Government.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently stressed the need for strict action against foreigners misusing passes to work in Malaysia.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail reported 54,791 foreigners faced enforcement action in 2025 up to mid-January.
In a separate development, the Cabinet was alerted to a Road Safety Committee report showing 4,000 fatal accidents involving youths in 2024.
Fahmi said the Cabinet has instructed the Transport Ministry to initiate immediate follow-up measures on the alarming statistics.
