Malaysia to join more inclusive Gaza flotilla mission

Malaysia will support a larger, more diverse Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 mission to break Israel’s Gaza blockade and deliver aid, says minister.

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s participation in the proposed Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 mission will involve a more inclusive group of volunteers.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the mission aims for broader participation across religions, races, and societal segments.

He stated that planning is underway for a larger mission with more participants and boats.

“We are examining what form of cooperation we can undertake,” Zulkifli told reporters after a meeting with activists.

He confirmed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given his full support to the mission.

The minister said the mission’s goal extends beyond breaching the Israeli naval blockade.

It also aims to convey to the world the serious situation in Gaza requiring international attention.

“The global community needs to witness the reality in Gaza,” Zulkifli said.

He added the mission intends to deliver humanitarian aid and deploy experts like doctors and teachers.

This follows the first GSF mission in September last year, which included 34 Malaysian volunteers.

That mission saw 41 vessels intercepted by Israeli forces in October.

Activists were detained and later deported to their respective countries.
