Malaysian Armed Forces launches overhaul to address governance issues

The MAF Joint Chiefs Committee is implementing measures to overhaul governance and administration, urging unity and trust in the legal process.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Joint Chiefs Committee (JPP) is implementing a comprehensive overhaul to address governance and abuse of power issues.

The MAF Defence Strategic Intelligence and Communication Division Headquarters stated these measures target governance management and administration in a factual and legal manner.

This follows discussions within the JPP, comprising acting Armed Forces chief Admiral Tan Sri Dr Zulhelmy Ithnain, Army Chief Gen Datuk Azhan Md Othman and Royal Malaysian Air Force Chief Gen Datuk Seri Muhamad Norazlan Aris.

“The discussion reflects the unity of the Armed Forces’ highest leadership, thus ensuring institutional stability, integrity of governance and the public’s confidence in the country’s security forces continue to be maintained,” the statement said.

The JPP has asked for space to correct the situation through proper mechanisms without external pressure or speculation.

It also urged all MAF personnel to remain united and have faith in the enforcement process and legal framework.

“The MAF will not compromise on any form of non-compliance with laws, regulations or core service values and every issue will be handled fairly, transparently and professionally,” it added.

The committee called on law enforcement agencies to emphasise the integrity of the MAF as the nation’s security team.

A balanced and law-based approach is crucial to ensuring justice without affecting institutional stability.

The MAF respects the public’s freedom to express views responsibly as part of democratic practice.

However, it advised against disseminating unverified information that could cause confusion and damage its image.

“The MAF leadership is fully committed to cooperating with the authorities to ensure justice prevails, and to maintain the public’s confidence in the MAF,” the statement concluded.

The JPP assured that the MAF remains a professional and trusted institution committed to defending Malaysia’s sovereignty.
