National doubles player Man Wei Chong aims to compete at the 2026 All England despite battling three separate injuries in his right knee.
NATIONAL men’s doubles player Man Wei Chong is determined to compete in the prestigious 2026 All England tournament despite not having fully recovered from three separate injuries to his right knee.
The 27-year-old said his decision is based on confidence in his ongoing recovery process and trust in his medical team. He revealed the injuries were diagnosed via an MRI scan after he struggled with pain during a tournament in January.
“There are three injuries near my right knee, namely the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), meniscus injury and chondral,” Wei Chong told reporters after a training session at Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara.
“The most minor ACL but there are two others, level 2 like that.”
The injury has forced him to reduce on-court training for the past two weeks, focusing instead on gym work and rehabilitation. He only returned to increasing his on-court training intensity this week.
He acknowledged the recovery is time-consuming, having recently received a PRP injection just before Chinese New Year. “I haven’t fully recovered, it’s taking a while,” he admitted.
“We have discussed with the physio and the doctor at the National Sports Institute (ISN), and the doctor believes in me and I have to believe in myself,” Wei Chong stated.
“Don’t let the injury slow you down. Don’t think too much, if there is a chance to get on the court, go all out.”
He will undergo a further examination with doctors this Thursday to assess the injury’s latest development. This check-up will determine his final readiness level ahead of the tournament.
The 2026 All England is scheduled to be held at the Birmingham Utility Arena from March 3 to 8.
