A Malaysian woman previously uncontactable in Aceh is safe and back home, while search continues for another missing in Sumatra landslides.
KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian woman reported uncontactable following severe floods in Aceh is confirmed safe and has returned to Malaysia.
The 64-year-old woman’s family informed the Foreign Ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, of her safe return on Monday.
Separately, the search for another Malaysian, 30-year-old Asrul Nizam Apridwson, has entered its 15th day.
He was reported missing after a landslide in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, on November 27.
Wisma Putra stated that search efforts remain ongoing with consular support being provided to his family.
The Consulate General of Malaysia in Medan continues to monitor the situation in Sumatra following floods and landslides since late November.
Indonesian authorities report improved access to several previously cut-off areas as road clearance works progress.
This has enabled search and rescue teams to reach more locations, leading to a decline in the number of individuals initially reported missing.
Flood conditions in parts of the affected provinces are also gradually stabilising, with some districts entering early recovery phases.
However, authorities continue to face impediments in several interior areas, including Aceh Tamiang and the Tapanuli regions.
Access, essential supplies, and basic services remain challenging to restore in these locations.
Wisma Putra advises Malaysians in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh to remain vigilant and heed local authority instructions.
It encourages anyone requiring assistance or unable to contact relatives to reach out to the Consulate General immediately.
The Consulate General in Medan can be contacted 24 hours via its hotline at +62 823 6164 6046.
It can also be reached by email at mwmedan@kln.gov.my.
