Malaysia’s export unit value index dips slightly in November 2025

Malaysia’s export unit value index fell 0.1% in November 2025, driven by lower mineral fuels and crude materials, while import volume rose.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s export unit value index decreased by 0.1% to 154.0 points in November 2025.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported the import unit value index also dipped by 0.1% to 124.5 points.

Consequently, the country’s terms of trade declined slightly by 0.02% month-on-month to 123.68 points.

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the export drop was driven by mineral fuels, inedible crude materials, and chemicals.

“Likewise, the export volume index fell by 8.9%,” he said in a statement.

He noted decreases in animal and vegetable oils and fats, machinery and transport equipment, and manufactured goods.

The seasonally adjusted export volume index also dropped by 6.3% to 165.9 points.

Nevertheless, both the export unit value and volume indices expanded 3.3% and 3.7% respectively year-on-year.

Mohd Uzir said the import unit value index slid due to lower chemicals, mineral fuels, and machinery indices.

Meanwhile, the import volume index rose by 0.8% month-on-month.

This was supported by increases in machinery and transport equipment and miscellaneous manufactured articles.

The seasonally adjusted import volume index increased by 4.2% to 234.3 points.

Annually, the import unit value index declined by 1.9%, while the volume index rose by 18.0%.

Mohd Uzir added that Malaysia’s terms of trade slipped marginally month-on-month.

This was driven by declines in mineral fuels, inedible crude materials, and food.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s terms of trade increased by 5.2% year-on-year from November 2024.
