KUALA TERENGGANU: Marine police and wildlife authorities have seized 16 protected parrots in a joint operation in Kijal.

The Terengganu Marine Police Force and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) confiscated the birds believed to be blue-rumped parrots during a raid on Sunday.

The operation targeted premises at Jalan Pantai Lorong Penunjuk Indah in Rumah Murah, Kijal.

Marine Police Force Region 3 Commander ACP Zulafendi Hassan said the birds were discovered during a 3 pm inspection.

Perhilitan enforcement officers and four officers from the Kuala Terengganu Marine Intelligence Unit conducted the raid.

The fully-protected species are estimated to be worth RM80,000.
