MEF backs KUSKOP policy framework to tackle MSME challenges
KUALA LUMPUR: The policy framework proposed by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) can address the structural and operational challenges faced by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) said the initiatives announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reflect a pragmatic approach to sustaining business continuity.
MEF president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said measures such as additional MSME financing and tax refunds will provide immediate cash flow relief.
“Service tax exemptions and reductions, as well as the deferment of penalties for e-invoice Phase 4, will allow businesses to reallocate resources towards operations, workforce retention and growth,” he said.
The federation also welcomed fiscal and regulatory measures that reduce compliance costs and enhance the ease of doing business.
These include the increase in registration thresholds for leasing and rental services.
The Voluntary Stamp Duty Disclosure Programme and service tax exemptions for selected sectors, including construction, were also noted.
MEF supports initiatives that strengthen market access and domestic demand for small businesses.
This includes onboarding 10,000 small traders into the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah ecosystem.
The immediate rollout of additional allocations for small projects undertaken by MSME contractors classified under G1–G4 was also highlighted.
The federation added that the government’s emphasis on bureaucratic reform is consistent with employers’ calls for improved efficiency.
This includes digitalisation and paperless service delivery to improve productivity and administrative processes.
