Melaka’s 2026 budget allocates RM621.8 million for development and operations, including special aid for civil servants and media incentives
MELAKA: The state government has tabled its 2026 budget totalling RM621.8 million.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the budget comprises RM528.8 million for operating expenditure and RM93 million for development.
He stated the state’s estimated revenue for 2026 is RM528.9 million.
This revenue consists of RM184.7 million in tax revenue, RM295.7 million in non-tax revenue, and RM48.5 million in non-revenue receipts.
Ab Rauf announced 204 initiatives under the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) programme for public well-being.
The RM93 million development allocation includes RM56.6 million from state revenue and RM28.4 million from a federal grant.
It also includes RM8 million from an ecological transfer fund and a token RM20 from a loan account.
The budget is themed “Pembangunan Terancang, Demi Rakyat, Untuk Rakyat” or “Planned Development, For the People, By the People”.
It involves three key agendas implemented through 13 focus areas across 11 executive council portfolios.
The main agendas are sustaining economic development, enhancing public welfare, and strengthening governance.
Ab Rauf announced special financial aid for 5,200 state civil servants equivalent to half a month’s salary or a minimum of RM2,000.
This aid involves a financial implication of RM11.379 million and will be distributed at the end of December.
He noted that 1,153 recipients will receive more than a month’s salary from this payment.
“Among the highest beneficiaries are 631 KAFA and kindergarten teachers under the Melaka Islamic Religious Department,” he said.
An additional RM500 will be given to these teachers, to be distributed next March.
The state government is also recognising the role of the media for the first time with a one-off RM500 special incentive.
This media incentive involves a financial implication of RM75,000. – Bernama
