Mindef orders probe into viral claims of misconduct at military camps

Defence Ministry directs armed forces to investigate viral social media claims of unauthorised entry and immoral activities at military camps

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry has ordered the Malaysian Armed Forces to conduct an internal investigation into viral social media allegations.

The posts claim unauthorised individuals entered military camps and that immoral activities occurred on the premises.

In a statement, Mindef said it views the allegations seriously and stressed they do not reflect the culture or values of the armed forces.

The ministry said the armed forces are founded on discipline, professionalism and strict adherence to security procedures.

“If the allegations are found to be true, firm action will be taken without compromise against any party involved,” the statement read.

It added that action would be taken in accordance with existing regulations, procedures and laws.

Mindef advised the public not to engage in speculation or make premature conclusions.

It said such actions could mislead society and damage the reputation of the ministry and the armed forces.

Both Mindef and the armed forces remain committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline and integrity.

The ministry stated it will not tolerate any conduct that could undermine the image and credibility of the nation’s defence institutions.

Social media posts alleging the immoral activities went viral yesterday.

The claims involve external individuals and military personnel.
