A key bridge upgrade in Bagan Datuk has been completed five months early, easing traffic for 7,000 residents and saving RM800,000 in government funds.

BAGAN DATUK: A crucial infrastructure project to upgrade a narrow bridge in Hutan Melintang has been completed five months ahead of schedule. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi launched the new road at the Jalan A123 junction today.

The project will ease traffic congestion in Pekan Bagan Datuk and benefit approximately 7,000 nearby residents. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister and Bagan Datuk MP, said the infrastructure improves road safety.

It provides a direct link to the A123 state road, the FT069 federal route, the Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge and the West Coast Expressway. The upgrade involved transforming an ageing, single-lane, two-way bridge at a key junction in the town.

The bridge links Kampung Pasang Api and surrounding areas to the federal route FT069. The Perak Public Works Department stated the project was approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan’s Third Rolling Plan and funded by the federal government.

Work began on Aug 8, 2024 and was originally scheduled for completion on Aug 5, 2026 at a cost of RM2.9 million. It was finished on March 4 at a cost of RM2.1 million, resulting in savings of RM800,000 for the government.
