National Tinkering Challenge: Team of special needs pupils wins three categories

PUTRAJAYA: A team of pupils with special needs from Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit, Perak, has been announced the winner of the National Tinkering Challenge (NTC) 2023 through their Pet-Smart project.

Asuki Iman Mohd Faizal, Muhammad Aqil Khalish Mohd Khadzri and Muhammad Darwisy Hafidh Mohd Hafiszul won RM2,500 and an educational kit under the special needs category. They were also named the winner of the Best Presenter and Popular Video categories which offered a cash prize of RM300 and an educational kit each.

According to their teacher, Nurul Wahida Musa, the students who are dyslexic were highly committed to creating the project and winning the competition.

“It was their idea. They told me about it, so being their teacher, I fully supported them,” she said.

Asuki Iman, Muhammad Aqil Khalish and Muhammad Darwisy Hafidh created an alert system to remind pet owners to refill their pet feeders using lights and buzzers.

Students competed in three categories, namely special needs, primary school and secondary school.

The challenge was held in conjunction with the Malaysia Techlympics 2023 National Finals at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, today.

The NTC, held for the fourth time during the Malaysia Techlympics, is the initiative of the National Science Centre to encourage school students to engage in tinkering-related activities based on science, technology and mathematics. – Bernama
