Perak opens affordable Iman Childcare Centre at PPR Seri Kepayang, offering low fees and safe early education to support working parents.
IPOH: A new childcare centre at a People’s Housing Programme (PPR) aims to support low-income families by providing affordable early education and care.
The Iman Childcare Centre at PPR Seri Kepayang offers fees below market rates to ease the financial burden on B40 households.
Perak Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said this initiative gives parents, especially women, a chance to join the workforce.
“It can accommodate up to 23 children at any one time,” she said in a statement.
The centre operates from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm for full-day care and offers half-day sessions from 1 pm.
It functions as a recognised early education facility for children aged four to 10.
Ng highlighted the urgent need for such services in PPR areas like Seri Kepayang and Jalan Hospital Flat, which house over 3,200 residents combined.
She noted that previously, many children were left without proper supervision or in unsuitable conditions.
The Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP) established the centre as a corporate social responsibility project.
LPHP renovated the hall space in compliance with Welfare and Fire Department guidelines and with Ipoh City Council approval.
Support includes offering the operator rental rates below market value to ensure sustainability.
“The Perak government believes that holistic housing development not only provides shelter, but also builds a community ecosystem,” Ng said.
She hopes the centre will catalyse more high-impact initiatives for the B40 group.
The project aligns with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 plan and supports Sustainable Development Goal 11 for inclusive communities.
