Newborn baby girl found abandoned in Sungai Dua house toilet

A newborn girl with umbilical cord still attached was discovered abandoned in front of a house toilet in Sungai Dua, Butterworth.

BUTTERWORTH: A newborn baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached was found abandoned in front of a house toilet in Sungai Dua last Thursday.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abd Rahman said a member of the public discovered the infant and subsequently lodged a report at 6.28 am.

Police and forensic teams from the Penang contingent headquarters visited the scene and confirmed the baby was alive.

The infant was taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital where she was confirmed to be healthy.

She has been referred to the Social Welfare Department for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth with the intention of abandoning a baby.
