No directive to prevent Johor MB from entering Felda areas, says Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim denies claims of a directive barring Johor MB Onn Hafiz Ghazi from Felda areas, citing federal-state jurisdiction.

DENGKIL: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today dismissed allegations that there was a directive barring Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi from entering Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) areas.

He said the Federal Government was only focusing on implementing projects under its jurisdiction in the land schemes.

“There is no such instruction. The Federal Government handles federal projects, while the state government manages state matters. Why make an issue out of it?” he told reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Jameatus Solehah, Pekan Dengkil here.

Previously, Onn Hafiz revealed that he had been prevented from entering a FELDA area to present land titles to settlers in conjunction with the Johor FELDA Settlers’ Day celebration.

Anwar stressed that he would not entertain comments from external parties pursuing certain agendas, but would instead remain fully focused on carrying out his responsibilities for the benefit of the people.

“I am not sure what they mean, and I do not pay much attention to such comments. We have a lot of work to do,” he said.

Earlier, UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh called on the Prime Minister and the FELDA director-general to explain who had issued the directive to cancel the Johor-level FELDA Settlers’ Day celebration and to bar the Johor Menteri Besar from entering the FELDA settlement.

He said the issue arose after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denied issuing any directive to cancel the programme or to prevent the Johor Menteri Besar from entering FELDA settlements.
