Parliament approves Budget 2026 for three ministries

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat has approved Budget 2026 allocations for three key ministries through voice vote.

The Ministry of Economy received the largest allocation at RM2.75 billion for next year’s operations.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan revealed that development expenditure for the ministry amounts to RM2.115 billion.

This represents a significant 72.7% increase compared to the revised 2025 allocation.

“The increase amounts to RM890.56 million for development projects in 2026,” he told parliament during the committee-level debate.

He noted that some completed projects would no longer require funding next year.

The Ministry of National Unity secured RM767.99 million for operating and development expenses.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities obtained RM810.09 million under the Fourth MADANI Budget theme.

Operating expenses account for RM477.82 million (59%) of the plantation ministry’s allocation.

Development expenditure makes up the remaining RM332.27 million (41%) for the commodities sector.

The committee-level debate featured contributions from government, opposition and independent lawmakers.

Ministers from all three ministries delivered winding-up speeches before the vote.

Parliament will resume its sitting tomorrow to continue budget deliberations. – Bernama
