Penang’s RM600 incentive for taxi drivers and school bus operators will be paid via EFT from March, continuing a 13-year support programme.
GEORGE TOWN: Penang will resume its annual incentive payments for taxi drivers and school bus operators starting in March.
State Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the RM600 aid will be disbursed via direct electronic fund transfer.
This marks the 13th consecutive year the state has provided this financial support to the groups.
A total of RM18.32 million has been distributed to beneficiaries from 2013 until last year.
The payment will be made in a single instalment to all eligible taxi drivers and school bus operators.
Applicants must apply online through the designated portal with no physical documents required.
Eligibility criteria require applicants to be Malaysian citizens and registered voters in Penang.
They must also be registered with the Land Public Transport Agency under a valid operating licence.
Licences include those for taxi, rental car, airport taxi, limousine, or premium taxi services operating solely within Penang.
All drivers must be enrolled with the Social Security Organisation under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme.
Zairil urged eligible individuals to promptly update their documents on the state’s i-Sejahtera website.
Applicants can also seek assistance at any state assemblyman’s service centre or constituency coordination centre.
The full list of requirements is available on the i-Sejahtera portal.
