17 Terengganu villages on flood alert amid continuous rain warning

Continuous rain warning puts 17 villages across three Terengganu districts at flood risk, with authorities activating preparedness measures.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Seventeen villages across three districts in Terengganu are at risk of flooding following a continuous rain alert issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

The warning remains in effect from today until November 21.

State Drainage and Irrigation Department director Osman Abdullah identified the vulnerable areas across Kuala Terengganu, Besut and Setiu districts.

Kuala Terengganu’s at-risk villages include Kampung Lubuk Periuk, Kampung Peneh, Kampung Kuala Ping, Kampung Kepah, Kampung Nibong and Kampung Kemat.

Besut’s flood-prone locations comprise Kampung Keruak, Kampung Belaoh, Kampung La, Kampung Batu 13, Kampung Bekok and Kampung Bukit Payong.

Setiu’s vulnerable areas are Kampung Hulu Seladang, Kampung Besut, Kampung Padang, Kampung Lubuk Panjang and Kampung Gong Terap.

Osman stated that JPS has activated preparedness measures including river water level monitoring.

The department is coordinating with relevant agencies and making early preparations for possible flood operations room activation.

He advised residents in the listed areas to remain alert to official warnings and take necessary precautions. – Bernama
