AADK officer pleads not guilty to RM19,440 false claims

A National Anti-Drugs Agency officer in Sabah faces six charges for allegedly using false documents to claim RM19,440 in service payments eight years ago.

KOTA KINABALU: A National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) officer has pleaded not guilty to six counts of submitting false documents to obtain service payments totalling RM19,440.

The offences are alleged to have occurred at the Sabah AADK office between August 2018 and April 2019.

According to the charges, 53-year-old Bakri Bibi dishonestly used false documents to claim payments for food and beverage services for AADK programmes in Kunak and Tawau.

The claims for the Kunak programmes amounted to RM9,700, while the Tawau programme claim was for RM4,500.

Bakri also faces two charges for allegedly using false documents to claim RM5,240 for building materials supplied for a community gotong-royong activity in Tawau.

All charges were framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code, read with Section 468.

The sections provide for a maximum imprisonment of seven years and a fine upon conviction.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Norsham Shaharom conducted the prosecution, while counsel Zahir Shah represented the accused.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus granted Bakri bail of RM30,000 with one local surety.

The bail conditions require him to report to the MACC office every two months and surrender his passport.

He was also ordered not to interfere with witnesses or the trial process.

The court set April 27 for the case’s re-mention.
