ABIM says same-sex relationships are a social and health concern, citing rising HIV cases and recent raid involving civil servants in immoral activities

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM) has declared same-sex relationships a social and health threat requiring intervention from multiple sectors.

ABIM deputy president Mohamad Saifuddin Abdul Latiff said recent raids on Chow Kit health premises used for homosexual activities show immoral behaviour is becoming increasingly bold and organised.

He expressed particular concern about the involvement of 17 civil servants, including teachers and healthcare workers, in activities against religion and societal values.

“What is more worrying is the involvement of 17 civil servants, including teachers and healthcare workers, in activities that are blatantly against religion, human nature, and societal values,” he said in a statement.

Health Ministry data reveals an increasingly concerning trend of HIV infections where transmission through same-sex relations is rising in new cases.

“This situation underscores that deviant practices are not only contrary to syariah and moral values, but also pose a significant public health risk,” he added.

Mohamad Saifuddin called for family institutions, schools, mosques, civil society, and government to work together through law enforcement, moral education, and public health advocacy.

He emphasised the issue concerns societal values, moral safety, and public well-being rather than stigma or discrimination.

“Firm action against deviant behaviour carried out openly is necessary to safeguard the dignity of society, public order, and the future of the nation,” he stated.

ABIM regrets that some parties belittle the issue as though moral collapse is something to be laughed at.

“Such an attitude is extremely dangerous because it opens the door to normalisation, erodes moral sensitivity, and ultimately leads society into a larger wave of social damage,” he warned.

Authorities raided a spa and health centre suspected of being a gathering place for homosexual men last Friday, arresting 208 individuals including 17 civil servants. – Bernama
