Anwar reminds MPs to focus on duties ahead of parliament sitting

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim calls on Unity Government MPs to engage in constructive debate as parliament resumes, with four key bills on the agenda.

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded members of parliament from the Unity Government to focus on their duties ahead of the new parliamentary session.

The reminder was delivered during a pre-sitting briefing with MPs at the Seri Perdana Complex.

MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Prime Minister stressed that their responsibility extends beyond mere attendance.

“In general, he stressed that as members of parliament, our responsibility is not just to attend sittings, but to debate properly in the House,” Fahmi said.

The briefing also served as a platform for MPs and senators to strengthen ties ahead of the sitting.

Fahmi confirmed four bills have been identified as government priorities for this session.

These include a bill to limit the Prime Minister’s term to no more than ten years.

Other priority bills concern the separation of powers for the Public Prosecutor and Attorney General, the Ombudsman Bill 2025, and a bill related to the Freedom of Information Act.

The First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament begins with the Royal Address.

According to the parliamentary calendar, the 20-day Dewan Rakyat sitting includes seven days of debate on the Royal Address starting January 20.

The session will then proceed with ministers’ question time and the tabling of bills through early March.
