Corporate sector urged to support local community economic empowerment – Dr Wan Azizah

Dr Wan Azizah calls on corporations to strengthen local economies through programmes like YSD SEPAKAT, offering financial aid and skills training

KUALA LUMPUR: The corporate sector has been urged to support efforts strengthening economic development in local communities, including urban areas.

Prime Minister’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said initiatives like YSD SEPAKAT provide financial support and income-generating opportunities.

The programme also offers leadership workshops and digital training for young people.

“It also draws on mentorship and expertise from experienced YSD project partners, which will help enhance skills in managing high-impact projects,” she said when officiating the YSD SEPAKAT and Community Day programme.

SEPAKAT stands for Solidarity, Empathy, Leadership, Aspiration, Community, Trust and Governance.

Three resident associations have been chosen as pioneer recipients under the initiative.

The associations are from Seri Malaysia PPR, Perumahan Awam Seri Sabah 3A and Flat Sri Melaka.

Dr Wan Azizah hopes their success will serve as an example for other residents’ associations.

“I also hope that these benefits can be extended to all residents, enabling mutual support and enhancing competitiveness,” she said.

The Bandar Tun Razak MP also handed over RM18,500 to 46 residents affected by last month’s storm.

The contribution benefited residents of Kampung Malaysia Tambahan and Kampung Malaysia Raya. – Bernama
