Decision not to appeal shows Anwar understands Sabahans’ aspirations – Hajiji

PM Anwar’s decision not to appeal the High Court ruling on Sabah’s 40% revenue rights shows understanding of Sabahans’ aspirations, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Government’s decision not to appeal the High Court ruling on Sabah’s 40% revenue rights demonstrates Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s understanding of Sabahans’ aspirations.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the decision reflects Anwar’s sincere commitment to uphold Sabah’s constitutional rights.

He expressed the Sabah government’s appreciation to Anwar and the Cabinet for reaffirming Sabah’s constitutional rights to the 40% Special Grant.

“In my meetings with the Prime Minister, I stated the state government’s firm stance that Sabah’s constitutional rights must be respected, recognised and fulfilled,” Hajiji said in a statement.

The decision not to appeal shows the strong working relationship between the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state government and Putrajaya.

On October 17, the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruled the Federal Government acted unlawfully by failing to fulfil Sabah’s 40% revenue rights from 1974 to 2021.

Hajiji, who chairs GRS, said the state government is ready to negotiate constructively with the Federal Government to implement the court’s ruling.

He called on Sabahans to continue supporting Anwar’s leadership while emphasizing that respecting the court ruling is crucial for closing development gaps.

“The people of Sabah have waited long enough,” Hajiji stated.

“What is needed now is firm action and genuine political will to honour and implement the 40% entitlement.” – Bernama
