Dewan Negara approves RM470 billion Budget 2026 for Malaysia

The Dewan Negara passed the RM470 billion Supply Bill 2026, focusing on economic balance and social development under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Negara today passed the Supply Bill 2026.

The bill was approved by a majority vote following its third reading by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

It was passed after seven days of debate and winding-up speeches.

The bill was initially presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Dec 2.

In his closing remarks, Amir Hamzah said Budget 2026 continues to balance economic and social development.

“Budget 2026 places strong emphasis on the people, with the aim of improving their standard of living and well-being, strengthening the national economy, and ensuring that the country’s financial management remains sustainable,” he said.

Budget 2026 is the fourth budget under the MADANI Government.

It is the first budget to be implemented under the framework of the 13th Malaysia Plan.

Themed “People’s Budget,” it allocates RM470 billion in public spending.

This includes RM338.2 billion for operating expenditure and RM81 billion for development expenditure.

It also includes investments by government-linked companies totalling RM30 billion.

A further RM10 billion is allocated for public-private partnerships.

An additional RM10.8 billion is for Federal statutory bodies and companies owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated. – Bernama
